F1 in Schools is the world's most exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) competition. It challenges students to design, build, and race miniature Formula 1 cars, mirroring the world of real Formula 1 racing.

The Challenge

Teams of students aged 9 to 19 take on the role of a Formula 1 team, facing real-world engineering challenges:

  • Design

    Using CAD/CAM software to create a miniature F1 car of the future.

  • Analyse

    Employ Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for aerodynamic testing.

  • Make

    Utilise CNC machines to manufacture the car body from F1 model block.

  • Test

    Conduct wind tunnel testing to optimize performance.

  • Race

    Compete on a 20-meter track, with cars reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h.

  • Beyond Engineering

    • Raise sponsorship and manage budgets
    • Create a brand identity
    • Collaborate and present their project to industry experts

F1 in Schools FAQ

The F1 in Schools Competition is made up of 3 key events 

  • Regional Finals: Teams compete at a local level.
  • National Finals: Best 2 teams from regionals progress to compete for the national title.
  • World Finals: The top 3 teams from each country compete on the global stage at an F1 Grand Prix.

F1 in Schools goes beyond just building a model car. It:
